On Thursday, March 24th SEF had the honor to distribute 60 copies of the lyrical picture book Change Sings to all 5 elementary schools in the district. Each grade K-3 classroom received a copy of the debut picture book from #1 New York Times bestselling author and presidential inaugural poet Amanda Gorman.

“Change Sings: A Children’s Anthem follows the musical story of a young girl who holds the power to change the world within herself, and inspires others to see the same power within themselves.” Amanda Gorman said “I wrote this book because I believe every child has the ability to make a difference and that they are the leaders of the future…I hope readers will enjoy Change Sings and remember that all of us have the power to change the world.”

This very special book distribution in celebration of Black History Month was all thanks to the generosity of long time SEF supporter and former President Dr. Chasity Jennings Nunez. The delivery was delayed to March which as it turns out added to the celebration because we were not only able to recognize and celebrate Black History Month but also International Women’s Day, and Read Across America!

Please join me in thanking Dr. Jennings Nunez for her personal commitment in support of literacy and importantly to making a difference in the lives of others. It was our sheer pleasure to visit the sites with her personally to deliver the books valued at over $1,200 for all K-3 teachers who are fostering a lifelong love of reading in their students. There’s more…there is even a copy being placed in each of the school site libraries.

SEF distributing literature in San Gabriel public schools thanks to our amazing donors? We say YES and THANK YOU!!
