SEF collaborates with an incredible group of individuals and agencies to provide students with academic, social and personal enrichment in the afternoons!!
The Youth Engineers for a Green Future program has been afforded in San Gabriel public schools thanks to the multi-sector partnership between the Southern California Chinese American Environmental Protection Association (SCCAEPA), Geosyntec Consultants, Inc., the San Gabriel Unified School District (SGUSD) and SEF and is supported through a grant funded by the California Environmental Protection Agency (CalEPA).
The afterschool enrichment education program has been developed to provide technical learning related to environmental science and engineering with class lessons focused on education about green infrastructure with various lecture topics presented by technical experts, in conjunction with in-class activities, hands-on design projects, and mentoring. Students enrolled in the program participated in: lectures on green infrastructure and basic engineering principles; hands-on in-class construction of a mini-sand filter: the design and build of a demonstration scale mesocosm biofilter; a mentored project on landscape design with native plants and more.
We are incredibly grateful to the collaborative body of individuals, organizations, and the district, for working together on a common goal of bringing the Youth Engineers for a Green Future program to the afternoons at JMS.
